Netflix to separate rental, streaming services

Yesterday, Netflix's CEO Reed Hastings announced the changes in the company — Netflix's streaming and DVD services will be split into two businesses and the DVD portion will be known as Qwikster. Hastings said the DVD service will be the same as ever, "just a new name." Netflix will also add video game rentals to Qwikster.com.

"Members have been asking for video games for many years, and now that DVD by mail has its own team, we are finally getting it done. Old Fogey discs will last a long time," said Netflix CEO Reed Hastings in an online post.

"Our view is with this split of the businesses, we will be better at streaming, and we will be better at DVD by mail," wrote Netflix CEO Reed Hastings in a blog post late Sunday.
